EXHIBITION NOTE
섬은 외부와의 격리, 고립을 은유하는 소재로 사용된다. 하지만 반대로 외부와의 단절에 기인하는, 타지와 구별되는 자신만의 생태계, 독자적인 아름다움을 펼칠 가능성을 말할 수도 있다. 호크마 김이 말하고자 하는 섬은 각자가 자신만의 아름다움을 품고 있는 세상의 모든 존재이다. 작가 역시 본인 스스로를 하나의 섬으로 생각하고, 그 섬 안에 자신만의 이야기를 차곡히 담고자 한다.
ADM 기획전 <개개인의 섬들>은 작가가 이러한 태도를 바탕으로 제주의 자연을 거닐며 만난 다채로운 자연의 형태와 색의 아름다움을 이야기한다. 제주의 자연이 인간이 상상할 수 있는 범위를 벗어난 초월적 존재와 같이 느껴졌다고 말하는 작가의 섬은 어떠한지. 작가의 섬이 품은 이야기를 화폭으로 들어보는 시간이 되기를 소망한다.
The term 'island' encompasses various interpretations, often referring to concepts of isolation and confinement. However, it can also introduce notions of uniqueness, character, and a mental terrarium of one's mind and beauty. HOKMA GIM defines the term as a collection of one's own creativity, and uses it to display stories and significance of individualism.
<INDIVIDUAL ISLAND> by ADM Gallery aims to portray the colors and forms of the artists' own perception of Jeju Island's nature, and hopes the exhibition to be a short moment in time in appreciating the artist's impression of the island being a transcended world, and the endless colors and beauty contained within a frame.
